Janell Hargrove Brooks, PhD

Dr. Janell Hargrove Brooks has 25 years of expertise in providing clinical and school-based services for children, adolescents, and young adults aged 2 to 23. She holds masters and educational specialist degrees in school psychology from the University of Georgia and a doctorate degree in school psychology from Georgia State University. Dr. Brooks has conducted psychological and psychoeducational evaluations and provided treatment for youth with various childhood disorders. She has extensive training and practice in diagnostic assessment of autism spectrum disorders.

At Fresh Start for the Mind, Dr. Brooks specializes in comprehensively evaluating children and adolescents for developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, ADHD/executive functioning challenges, and learning disorders (including dyslexia). She approaches assessments holistically, believing a thorough evaluation of a child’s functioning should assess visible and hidden symptoms; investigate underlying causes; and determine levels of impairment at home, school, and other areas where a child spends his/her time. Furthermore, the results of an evaluation should educate and empower families as they seek treatments and interventions tailored to their child’s unique needs and strengths.
